FIRSTLY, OUR THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH ...

"Tell a gelding, ask a mare, discuss it with a stallion ? ............ me ? I always discuss it

Due to health issues (and neither of us getting any younger ) we have been gradually reducing numbers here at Shadel. Whilst we have no intention of retiring completely either from breeding,
or the show ring at present, we are trying to make life a little easier for ourselves

Also : We have had a wonderful showing season in 2014 with two of our beautiful girls, collecting many Championships and class wins along the way. None of this would have been possible without the help of our good friend Leanne Lacey, and her wonderful daughter Jess. Jess showed our lovely Dancing in the Dark for most of the season, culminating in winning Young Producer
of the Year in her age group at the AEMHS Championships, and the Showing World Young Handler of 2014. We look forward to seeing them out in 2015 with their own mini team !

September this year ( 2013) will see us moving away from our usual show format to introduce a new Mare, Foal and Youngstock show. There will be most of the usual qualifiers included,  Shetland Pony classes as well as our annual,
and very popular, Foal Championship. The emphasis is going to be very much on the broodmares and the stock they are producing for us. So much emphasis is placed on stallions and their progeny ( and rightly so) but not enough on the other 59% of the equation. To that end we will be offering a perpetual trophy for the Champion broodmare. Look out for more
details as the year progresses. This show will also see the presentation of our annual AMHA and Spotted pony points awards. We look forward to seeing you all there with your lovely ladies !

Shadel would like to pay tribute to a very good friend, both to us and to the Miniature Horse world in general.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Ellis-Jones this past weekend.
Gary was a dear friend to us, and a hard working judge for the whole of the equestrian community, especially
here in Hampshire where he had made his home up until the last few weeks of his life.

When we first met him we were still showing our Welsh Mountain stallion, but the arrival of the Miniatures caught
his interest. Unlike a lot of judges back then he did not immediately dismiss them as 'pointless', and went out of
his way to find out as much as he could about them. Over the years he actively encouraged the furthering
of the breed and was always happy to answer questions and spend time with competitors. Going on to judge for IMHPS, BMHS and the Royal London to name but a few.

When we first started the Weyhill Shows he was there to judge at the very first show, and he became a frequent
visitor (sometimes to judge, but often just to watch and see how the standard was slowly improving.) He had
planned to be judging at our 10th Anniversary show in August and he will be sorely missed, both  by us, and
many of our competitors who had come to know him over the years.

He loved our old stallion, El Pampero, and I will never forget Elp taking the mickey out of him all day
when Gary asked if he could bring him out of retirement and show him once just for fun.

We will all be praying for a beautiful day on 21st of August as I am sure he will be there with us, mind you, that will be guaranteed as Gary ' didn't do rain'.

RIP Gary, aka ' the man in the bowler hat'

loud coloured babies that he will give us in the future

Superstar El Pampero achieved yet another major win this week when winning the World Breeds class at the New Forest Show. Made even more impressive due to the fact he was up against 3 Fresians, a Fjord, an Appaloosa, an American Standardbred and a Selle Francais ! What an achievement for a 14yr old Miniature Horse.

There will never be another like him. He then returned the following day to represent over 2500 horse entries in the Grand Parade which closes the show. Surely a first for the Miniature Horse world, and a major recognition from all our peers in the multitude of Breed Societies represented at this, one of the biggest shows on the County circuit.

To follow this up he went out on 1st August to Lionhearts show and took the Miniature Horse Championship
and qualified for the Southwestern Pony Association Championships too.

in August he went firstly to Alresford Agricultural show, duly winning his class, the following day he took
the Miniature Horse Championship at Denmead show. You just can't keep a good man down !

Shadel were delighted to be asked to take part in the Press Day for the New Forest Show.

We took two fillies, Hermits All That Jazz and Lewingales Sea Briar as examples of the type of Miniature Horses
that will be seen at the show on 24/25/26 July at New Park, Brockenhurst, Hants.
They were a huge hit with all of the photographers and film crews, and we were also interviewed for local radio.
Pictured is Hermits All That Jazz and Monty the shire. Monty was totally love struck and all
he would do was keep kissing her !'
