Shadel would like to pay tribute to a very good friend, both to us and to the Miniature Horse world in general.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Ellis-Jones this past weekend.
Gary was a dear friend to us, and a hard working judge for the whole of the equestrian community, especially
here in Hampshire where he had made his home up until the last few weeks of his life.

When we first met him we were still showing our Welsh Mountain stallion, but the arrival of the Miniatures caught
his interest. Unlike a lot of judges back then he did not immediately dismiss them as 'pointless', and went out of
his way to find out as much as he could about them. Over the years he actively encouraged the furthering
of the breed and was always happy to answer questions and spend time with competitors. Going on to judge for IMHPS, BMHS and the Royal London to name but a few.

When we first started the Weyhill Shows he was there to judge at the very first show, and he became a frequent
visitor (sometimes to judge, but often just to watch and see how the standard was slowly improving.) He had
planned to be judging at our 10th Anniversary show in August and he will be sorely missed, both  by us, and
many of our competitors who had come to know him over the years.

He loved our old stallion, El Pampero, and I will never forget Elp taking the mickey out of him all day
when Gary asked if he could bring him out of retirement and show him once just for fun.

We will all be praying for a beautiful day on 21st of August as I am sure he will be there with us, mind you, that will be guaranteed as Gary ' didn't do rain'.

RIP Gary, aka ' the man in the bowler hat'

2011 will be the 10th year that the Weyhill Shows have been run. For this reason our August show has been
designated the 10th Anniversary Show and we are looking for all of our previous Supreme and Reserve Supreme
Champions to return for a parade and a chance at the 'Champion of Champions' title, for which there will be
a cash prize, as well as super commemorative rosettes.
If you own, or know of any of our previous winners, please get in touch so that we can add you to our list of attendees.
The Supreme and Reserve Supreme from the show on the day will also be eligible

Superstar El Pampero achieved yet another major win this week when winning the World Breeds class at the New Forest Show. Made even more impressive due to the fact he was up against 3 Fresians, a Fjord, an Appaloosa, an American Standardbred and a Selle Francais ! What an achievement for a 14yr old Miniature Horse.

There will never be another like him. He then returned the following day to represent over 2500 horse entries in the Grand Parade which closes the show. Surely a first for the Miniature Horse world, and a major recognition from all our peers in the multitude of Breed Societies represented at this, one of the biggest shows on the County circuit.

To follow this up he went out on 1st August to Lionhearts show and took the Miniature Horse Championship
and qualified for the Southwestern Pony Association Championships too.

in August he went firstly to Alresford Agricultural show, duly winning his class, the following day he took
the Miniature Horse Championship at Denmead show. You just can't keep a good man down !
